Technical LeadFractional

Someone senior who owns the tech.

We own your technical decisions, systems and vendors, and still do the work. A technical lead for your business, without the full-time hire.

From $3k a month · month to month

When you need one

Signs it’s time.

  • Your website, store and systems matter, but nobody senior owns them
  • You’re paying agencies and freelancers without knowing if the work is right
  • Decisions about tools and vendors get made on gut feel
  • Something breaks and it takes three people to find out whose problem it is
  • You’ve thought about hiring a developer, but there isn’t a full-time job’s worth

How it works

What a month looks like.

Technical Lead includes everything in the Care Plan, so the site stays updated, backed up and secure. On top of that:
  1. 01

    A regular check-in

A short call to agree priorities, review what’s changed and flag what’s coming.

  2. 02

    Decisions, made with you

Which tools, which vendor, which quote. We give you a clear recommendation and the reason for it.

  3. 03

    Vendors and agencies managed

We brief them, review their work and keep them honest, so you don’t have to translate.

  4. 04

    The work itself

Small builds, fixes and integrations get done, not just discussed. Bigger pieces are estimated separately.

Your options

Technical lead vs hire vs agency.

An honest comparison. Each one is right for someone.

A senior hire

Full-time and in-house

Often $150k+ a year once you add super, leave and recruitment, for a job that may not be full-time

An agency

A team and a process

Account managers between you and the developer, and an incentive to sell the next project

A freelancer

Cheap and flexible

Does the task in front of them. Rarely owns the whole setup or the decisions

A technical lead

Senior judgement plus hands-on work, month to month

Limited spots, because each client gets real attention

Pricing

From $3,000 a month.

The Care Plan is included. The price depends on how much is going on: how many systems, how many vendors, and how much hands-on work there is. We agree the level up front, after a Health Check, and review it together if things change.

Month to month. Paid monthly in advance. Cancel any time before your next month. Months already started aren’t refunded.

It’s a part-time, advisory role, not a staff member: our time is shared with a few other clients and fair use applies. We take on only a handful of Technical Lead clients at a time, so each one gets real attention.

Technical lead in practice

Long relationships, not hand-offs.

Caleb & Brown logo
The problem
They’d outgrown a site their marketing team couldn’t update quickly, in a market where information changes daily.
What we owned
Design and build of a custom headless website, then evolving it as the business grew.
The result
Delivered on time and on budget, and a 4+ year partnership since.

“Our brand new website is a highlight. It was completed on time and budget.”

Chris, former Head of Sales & Marketing

The problem
Several properties, several websites, and booking platforms, hosting and plugins that had grown up over the years with nobody owning how they fitted together.
What we owned
Ongoing technical lead across their properties: hosting, booking integrations, updates, and a second opinion on every vendor and tool they consider.
The result
10+ years together. One person knows the whole setup, so a decision takes a phone call, not a discovery phase.

Technical lead questions

Limited availability

Talk about a technical lead.

No pitch and no pressure. Tell us what you’re running and what’s worrying you. We keep a small client list so we can be there when you need us. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll say so.
